Windows only installs drivers that carry a valid digital signature. Many mobile USB drivers are unsigned, so the installation stops with an error such as Windows requires a digitally signed driver or The third-party INF does not contain digital signature information. You can get past this by starting Windows once with driver signature enforcement turned off. This works on Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and 8.
Disable driver signature enforcement
What you need: a Windows computer and the driver package that shows the signature error.
- Save your work and close all open programs.
- Open the Start menu, click Power, then hold down the Shift key and click Restart. Keep holding Shift until the blue Choose an option screen appears.
- Click Troubleshoot.
- Click Advanced options.
- Click Startup Settings. If you do not see it, click See more recovery options first.
- Click Restart.
- When the Startup Settings list appears, press 7 or F7 to choose Disable driver signature enforcement.
- Windows now starts normally. Install your USB driver again; the signature error no longer blocks it.
This setting only lasts until the next restart. After that, Windows turns signature enforcement back on by itself, and the driver you installed keeps working.
- Driver Easy: If you still have trouble with the USB driver, you can use the Driver Easy application to find and install the required drivers automatically.
- ADB Driver: If you need the Android ADB Driver, follow the How to Install Android ADB Driver guide.
